Prof. MOHAMMED BESRI

PROF MOHAMMED BESRI is emeritus Professor at the Hassan II Institution of Agronomy and veterinary Medicine (IAV). Has published more than 120 papers in international and national journals and books and advised about 90 theses(Msc and PhD). He was head of the department of plant pathology, Director of the school of agriculture and Director of the graduate school at the IAV. Is expert inplant pathology(postharvest diseases, soil and air borne pathogens), Intergrated Production and Protection Management of various crops, alternatives to Methyl Bromide, development and others. Is consultant for many international organizations (FAO, UNEO, UNIDO..). Is a visiting professor to many foreign universities(USA, Europe, Africa...). he is also member of various national and international organization (IAPPS, IOBC, ASPP...). Is senior expert of the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) and member and former co-chair of the Methyl Bromide Technical Option Committee(MBTOC) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Was appointed by the Inter Academy Council (IAC) as a member of the intenational study panel to write a report for Kofi Anan, the former General Secrtary of the UN, on "Realizing the promise and potential of Africa Agriculture: Science and technology strategies for improving agricultual productivity and food security in Africa" and also as member of an Ad Hoc Task Force to follow up the report recommendations. Was a member of the Hassan II Academy of Sciences and Technology. Has been awarded the Medal of National Merit by th King Mohammed VI for his contribution to the Moroccan agricultural development. Has been awarded the UNEP Champion Award during the celebration of the 20th Anniversary for the Montreal Protocol.
